In the newly released Total Quality Index, trans-Atlantic automaker Fiat Chrysler was named the industry’s top-ranked manufacturer, with six models, including the little Fiat 500 and the Dodge Charger muscle car, named best-in-segment.

That might come as a shock to anyone who caught a different survey released exactly a month ago by the well-regarded research group J.D. Power and Associates. Fiat Chrysler CEO Marchionne Possibly on Prowl for a Deal With GM

NEW YORK (TheStreet) — Bought or be bought? Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCAU), would rather not say. What he will discuss is the auto industry consolidation, in which FCA intends to participate.

Earlier in the week, sources told Reuters that Marchionne is determined to execute a major deal before stepping down in 2019, possibly in the U.S. and possibly with General Motors. Fiat Chrysler CEO Says Combination With GM, Ford ‘Feasible’

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is open to a combination with General Motors Co. or Ford Motor Co., and said a deal with one of its larger U.S. counterparts would be “technically feasible.”

“We don’t have any restrictions,” Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne said Thursday in an interview in Geneva. The condition for any deal is “saving the highest amount of capital” on developing new vehicles.
